Twisting the facts to fit a journalist's bias

I was reading this article by Gerald Seib in the Wall Street Journal today on the 2020 Democratic campaign. It is mostly a fair appraisal of where things stand until I read this final paragraph:

Republicans continue to mostly hang with Mr. Trump on impeachment, but found one issue on which many have broken with him: His decision to have American troops stand aside so Turkey can launch an attack on Kurds in Syria, who have been American partners in the fight against Islamic State.

Do you really believe Trump was motivated by a desire to have our troops stand aside "so Turkey can launch an attack on Kurds in Syria?" I don't believe that. Trump never hinted at that being his motivation. In fact, he warned Erdogan of his ability to hurt Erdogan's Turkish economy if Erdogan took action against the Kurds.
