This blog is looking for wisdom, to have and to share. It is also looking for other rare character traits like good humor, courage, and honor. It is not an easy road, because all of us fall short. But God is love, forgiveness and grace. Those who believe in Him and repent of their sins have the promise of His Holy Spirit to guide us and show us the Way.

"What good is the high road if it leads to defeat?" There is another word for "moral victory." That word is "loss."
The first quote is from Derek Hunter, writing in Town Hall. The second is from Ace of Spades.

"But at least I'm not a "journalist" from Vanity Fair"
Andrew: "I'm a conservative because I'm a liberal!" Liberalism, as Andrew defines it, is "You doing you and me doing me...and you paying for you and me paying for me." Freedom, responsibility. It is only the Left that wants to shut people down. It is only the Left and the altRight crazies that want to maintain the illusion that race matters in matters of politics. Leftism is the enemy of liberalism!
Beto is Obama in white face, which may not work out that well for him. He is charming and optimistic and bouyant and the Left looks at him and thinks, electable! He told 60 Minutes and several other outlets that he was not going to run for president in 2020, but he is! I will say that I love the way his wife looks at him. What a beautiful smile she has. The Vanity Fair piece on him is here.
Maria Espinoza is Andrew's guest. She is the national director of the Remembrance Project which remembers people who have been killed by illegal immigrants. Because of Sanctuary Cities, it seems that illegal immigrants are untouchable in America. Is there an emergency? "Absolutely!" It is political theater, games. No one has done anything because no one (among politicians) wants to! She has just returned to Texas after being in the D.C. swamp for two years.
Andrew asks her about her experiences in the swamp. One example she gave was a time when she took grieving "Angel moms" to meet with Speaker Paul Ryan at his home in Wisconsin. He was wisked away without even saying hello to Maria's group.
Andrew's final reflection was on comedy today. Jay Leno wishes for a return to civility on late night comedy. Leftists know they can turn on late-night t.v. to get their ideas reinforced. Johnny Carson warned about that self-important feeling one gets when dealing with serious issues every night, and he was opposed to doing that. Andrew says that conservatism is the liberal philosophy. When conservatism no longer allows its opposition to speak, if there comes a time when conservatism starts to sort people according to race or gender categories it will lose people like Andrew. But right now the party of hate and exclusion and illiberalism is the Left.

The absurd argument for gun-free zones
In the Daily Wire, Amanda Prestigiacomo asks,
What Percentage Of Mass Shootings Happen In 'Gun Free Zones'? The Number Is Stunning.Read more here.
According to the Crime Prevention Research Center, "gun free zones" (areas where guns are prohibited) have been the target of more than 98% of all mass shootings. This staggering number is why such designated areas are often referred to as "soft targets," meaning unprotected and vulnerable.
...Former Vice President Joe Biden, a Democrat, introduced the Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) to the U.S. Senate in 1990, and it was signed into law by then-President George H.W. Bush, a Republican. The act was clearly proposed with the intent to prevent mass shootings at such precious areas as schools. But the act, as the statistic proves, did not result in the desired outcome.
While mass shootings are a complex issue with more than one action needed to prevent them, it seems unclear why gun control advocates would hold so tight to their well-intended, but ultimately dangerous "gun free zones" even in the face of such a staggering reality. Why is it kosher to protect our politicians, Hollywood celebrities, and federal currency with guns, but not our children?
..."According to the Crime Prevention Research Center, only a little more than 1% of mass public shootings since 1950 have occurred in places that were not considered to be a gun-free zone," reports The Blaze. "In fact, as Crime Prevention Research Center President John Lott Jr. noted in October 2015, only two mass shootings in the U.S. since 1950 have occurred in an area where citizens were not prohibited from carrying a gun."
When you choose to go after Victor Davis Hanson...
I have been following Ace of Spades as he for weeks has been deriding the people involved in the now defunct Weekly Standard and now they are with the Bulwark. I did not have much of an emotional response, until now. The Bulwark has chosen to go after Victor Davis Hanson, whose columns I have been reading and linking to for many years. Now it gets personal for me, too!

"Destroying history will not make you feel good about the present. Studying and learning from it might."
Victor Davis Hanson writes in American Greatness,
The subtext of most current name changing and icon toppling is that particular victimized groups blame their current plight on the past. They assume that by destroying long-dead supposed enemies, they will be liberated — or at least feel better in the present.Read more here.
Yet knocking down images of Columbus will not change the fact that millions of indigenous people in Central America and Mexico are currently abandoning their ancestral homelands and emigrating northward to quite different landscapes that reflect European and American traditions and political, economic and cultural values.
...Stanford University has changed the name of two buildings and a mall that had been named for Father Junipero Serra, the heroic 18th century Spanish founder of the California missions. Serra was reputed to be unkind to the indigenous people whom he sought to convert to Christianity.
Stanford students and faculty could have found a much easier target in their war against the dead: the eponymous founder of their university, Leland Stanford himself. Stanford was a 19th century railroad robber baron who brutally imported and exploited Asian labor and was explicit in his low regard for non-white peoples.
Yet it is one thing to virtue-signal by renaming a building and quite another for progressive students to rebrand their university—and thereby lose the prestigious Stanford trademark that is seen as their gateway to career advancement.
...ignorance both accompanies and explains the arrogance of historical erasure, past and present.
Recently, vandals in North Carolina set fire to a statue of General Lee. But they got the wrong Lee. Their target was not a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, but a statue of World War II Maj. Gen. William C. Lee, who campaigned for the creation of a U.S. Army airborne division and helped plan the invasion of Normandy.
The past is not a melodrama but more often a tragedy. Destroying history will not make you feel good about the present. Studying and learning from it might.
"Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria"
This morning on his blog, Ace of Spades tackles the issue of Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria. As usual when he tackles a huge issue, his commenters, who call themselves Morons and Moronettes, have worthile things to say.
What is so frustrating to me is that while about 80-90% of the country finds this horrific and insane, the most influential and powerful 10-20% think its some huge human rights issue and trendy. This is the biggest divide in the nation, its an uncrossable gulf. We think they are crazy and awful, and they think we're hateful and monstrous. They consider this to be the equivalent of blacks trying to sit in the front of the bus.

For every enthusiastic parent cheering on their kids, there are 10 more in the shadows filled with horror and heartbreak over what's happening to their child. In the teen girl community this is spreading like anorexia. It's terrifying and it's growing.

I wanted to fly. But my mom didn't pluck the wings off a bird, sew them on my arms and then tell me, "Go, jump off the roof and fly son, your'e a bird!".

Are you going to photoshop your kid's head on an athlete's body so he can get into Yale?
Wealthy elites are charged with committing fraud to get their kids into good schools. Do you now have less respect for the wealthy elites?

Suddenly, Facebook is allowing me to publish again.
Facebook has allowed me to publish links to Greenfield and Fischer. I suppose it is possible that they were only having trouble publishing pieces that I felt were important. My distrust has now been aroused, and I will be much more open to critics who point out the censorship coming from Amazon (banning Tommy Robinson's book on the Koran), Twitter, and Facebook.
