Scott Adams scores the debate

Let's check in on Scott Adams' debate analysis.
...But the most interesting question has to do with what problem both of them were trying to solve with the debate. Clinton tried to look healthy, and as I mentioned, I don’t think she completely succeeded. But Trump needed to solve exactly one problem: Look less scary. Trump needed to counter Clinton’s successful branding of him as having a bad temperament to the point of being dangerous to the country. Trump accomplished exactly that…by…losing the debate.

Trump was defensive, and debated poorly at points, but he did not look crazy. And pundits noticed that he intentionally avoided using his strongest attacks regarding Bill Clinton’s scandals. In other words, he showed control. He stayed in the presidential zone under pressure. And in so doing, he solved for his only remaining problem. He looked safer.

By tomorrow, no one will remember what either of them said during the debate. But we will remember how they made us feel.

Clinton won the debate last night. And while she was doing it, Trump won the election. He had one thing to accomplish – being less scary – and he did it.

The third debater

Heat Street staff write,
At tonight’s debate, Donald Trump faced off not just against Hillary Clinton, but against moderator Lester Holt.

The game of two-on-one saw Holt ask no questions about:

Hillary’s emails
Benghazi
The Clinton Foundation

While ignoring these issues, Holt grilled Trump on stop-and-frisk, the birther story, his comments about women, his many bankruptcies, why he hasn’t released his tax returns — and a host of other issues the media sees as unfriendly to the Republican candidate.

Holt also repeatedly attempted to “fact check” on some of Trump’s positions, such as his claim to have opposed the Iraq War from the beginning. Holt interrupted Trump several times to interject, but rarely succeeded (and may have come across as weak and impotent).

"You have to purge the Matrix from your brain."

Ace of Spades writes,
Andrew Breitbart used to say -- he said this the first time I met him -- that the left creates a "Matrix," as in the movie, a prison of illusion and reality distortion. When you are in the Matrix, he said excitedly, you can't see the Matrix itself.

Many commentators on the right -- I included -- are thoroughly colonized by leftist memes. How could we not be? We are constantly mesmerized by them, a thousand cult chants a day whispering at us from our electric soma boxes.

Many are looking at Hillary Clinton's answers and saying "She won on points."

Did she?

Because what did she really say? On national security and ISIS, she offered the novel thought that we must work more closely with our allies.

Really. You don't say? I'm glad someone had the guts to finally say it.

Now, those whose brains are colonized by leftist viral memes will call that a "good answer." It's the accepted Conventional Wisdom answer of the Davoisie and the Davoisie wannabes.

But is it a good answer?

Or is it just insect-talk? (Insect talk being my own word for something so trivial and brainless it doesn't even rise to the level of small-talk.)

Clinton said a lot of crap like this last night -- she said that to improve race relations, we needed to build more trust in the community in police, and more trust in police in the community.

Um, that is not an answer. That is simply a way of re-stating the problem. Her husband used to do this a lot. How do we improve education? Why I have a five-point plan. (Ticking off points on each finger.) One, improve the curriculum. Two, improve the administration. Three, improve teacher-school relations. Four, encourage children to learn. Five, improve education.

Um, you didn't say how we were going to improve education. You simply broke the problem into several sub-problems and said we have to solve each of the sub-problems.

Yet people were always impressed by this -- at least among the chattering classes -- and praised Clinton for being soooo detailed.

Hillary tried this last night with her various bubble-headed Unsweet Nothings responses.

She's not as good as it as her husband.

People have heard all these non-responsive no-answer evasions before, and I don't think they're more impressed with them on the umpteenth repetition.

I think that our current politics has been organized around the central concept of Emptiness for a long time, and I think maybe this year, a year of rejectionism, is the year when people begin to see through the Emptiness.

So I would just suggest to the Chattering Classes and the Twitterati:

Are you really judging what she said, or are you simply regurgitating the Conventional Wisdom as to what is credited as counting as an "informed answer" in these moronic affairs?

Because people less colonized by parasitic, invasive leftist memes might have seen this show differently than you did.

Just because you know the Matrix exists does not mean you can see the Matrix.

To see the Matrix, you actually have to escape the Matrix.

You have to purge the Matrix from your brain.

Why Hillary hates Donald Trump

Chateau Heartiste has a theory why Hillary Clinton hates Donald Trump so much.
And why does it drive grandma into a rage? Because it reminds her of her cheating husband Bill, and the very very public humiliations she had to endure “standing by his side” that were necessary to sustain her future political ambitions.

7,712 terrorist encounters occurred within the United States from July 20, 2015 through July 20, 2016

Brandon Darby reports at Breitbart,
Leaked documents with sensitive FBI data exclusively obtained by Breitbart Texas reveal that and that many of those encounters occurred near the U.S.-Mexico border. The incidents are characterized as “Known or Suspected Terrorist Encounters.” Some of the encounters occurred near the U.S.-Mexico border at ports-of-entry and some occurred in between, indicating that persons known or reasonably suspected of being terrorists attempted to sneak into the U.S. across the border. In all, the encounters occurred in higher numbers in border states.

The leaked FBI data are contained in a fusion center’s educational materials, specifically the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center’s (ACTIC) “Known or Suspected Terrorist (KST) Encounters Briefing” covering from July 20 2015 through July 20 2016. The leaked documents are composed of 10 individual pages, but Breitbart Texas chose to release only nine of them due to page 10 containing contact information for ACTIC.

Page Six shows a pie chart indicating that the majority of encounters in Arizona were with Islamic known or suspected terrorists, both Sunni and Shi’a. Eighty-nine encounters were Sunni, 56 were Shi’a, 70 were “Other International Terrorist Groups or Affiliates,” and only 52 were with “Domestic Terrorism.”

Mateen transcripts released, revealing his allegiance to ISIS

Raheem Kassam reports at Breitbart,
Seventeen pages of transcripts between the Orlando police and Omar Mateen – the dead Islamic terrorist who killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Florida – have now been released.
Despite the drastic attempts by the establishment media to portray Mr. Mateen as a scorned, mentally ill, repressed homosexual, the documents reveal one crucial point: Omar Mateen ranted at the police about America’s fight against the Islamic State, mentioning the war and air strikes at least 20 times in total.

Who is more corrupt, Hillary or Obama?

Bookworm alleges,
Barack Obama is as corrupt as Hillary Clinton. One of the things Leftists love to tout is how “corruption free” the Obama administration has been. Certainly, there haven’t been indictments or firings, but that’s because (a) the Obama administration refuses to fire malfeasors (loyalty among thieves); (b) the Obama administration’s foot-dragging in investigations means they die on the vine because the media can bury these attenuated nothings; and (c) as a fish rots from the head, Obama’s corruption has infected those entities that are supposed to guard the people’s interests (e.g., the FBI and the DOJ). In other words, there’s lots of corruption out there. It’s just that Obama and his allies within and outside of the administration prevent any action on it.

A case in point is the curious case of Hillary’s illegal emails and Obama’s knowledge. Obama, from Day 1, disclaimed knowledge. That seemed like a lie, but one that couldn’t be proved — except it turned out that the lie was known months (even years) ago to the FBI. It knew that Obama was using a fake email address to correspond with Hillary on her home-brewed, unsecured server. This fact became public knowledge when the FBI informed Huma Abedin, when she didn’t recognize a name in an email thread, that it was Obama’s nom de cyber.

That knowledge, says Andrew McCarthy, explains the FBI’s bizarre approach to the investigation, from the freely given (and unnecessary) grants of immunity, to the failure to swear in Hillary during her examination, to allowing her to be represented by attorneys who were themselves under investigation, to Comey’s bizarre statement accusing Hillary of every security violation under the sun, only to conclude that she should not be prosecuted. With Obama’s rot as the top, and a politicized FBI and DOJ, the fix was always in. The FBI investigation was just more Kabuki theater to mislead and calm people who think the American government should abide by its own laws and that no person in America should be above the law.

First you were racist, now you're sexist!

Bookworm writes,
Obama engaged in conduct that would have gotten any other president impeached or indicted (see below). He’s gotten a pass since Day One, though, by using his all-purpose affirmative defense: No matter what you accuse me of, I win, because you’re racist.

Hillary is already playing her version of that card and playing it hard. She’s not corrupt, sick, duplicitous, mentally rigid, anti-American, anti-Israel, pro-radical Islamists (if they pay her), and ineffectual. None of that. The problem is that you’re sexist.

How many facts does Trump need to win the presidential debate? Hillary likes to present herself as a policy wonk. That she’s an unprincipled policy wonk whose forays into actual governance as Secretary of State have been disastrous doesn’t matter. Hillary and her acolytes believe that if she sounds smart, she wins.

...Trump gets the coveted ICE endorsement. America’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers have never endorsed a candidate — until now. They just endorsed Trump. The 95% of them that voted against endorsing Hillary know that her presidency means four more years (at least) of being forced to ignore the laws and regulations that cover America’s immigration enforcement.

Hillary’s estate tax grab has far-reaching consequences. Hillary announced her plan to impose a 65% death tax on large estates. She does not explain why she believes the government is entitled to this money. John F. Di Leo created an easy-to-understand graphic explaining what this tax would mean:

Smirk

Good!

Timothy Cama writes at The Hill,
Donald Trump is tapping a high-profile climate change skeptic to lead administration transition efforts for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Myron Ebell, director of energy and environment policy at the conservative think tank Competitive Enterprise Institute, is heading Trump’s EPA transition preparation, E&E Daily reported Monday.

Ebell is an outspoken, longtime skeptic of the scientific consensus that human activity is dramatically changing the climate. He often refers to warnings about global warming as climate “alarmism” and is a vocal critic of President Obama’s climate change regulations.
Ebell has argued that the Clean Power Plan is illegal and that the Paris climate change agreement is unconstitutional.

Trump also doubts that human activity causes climate change.

The Republican presidential nominee’s EPA would be responsible for implementing his ambitious agenda of dismantling major pieces of Obama’s climate legacy, like the Clean Power Plan for power plants and the Paris agreement.

Republican energy lobbyist and strategist Mike McKenna is heading Trump’s Department of Energy transition team, and David Bernhardt, a lawyer at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck and former Interior Department solicitor under President George W. Bush, is leading the transition for that department, E&E reported.

The Trump campaign didn’t respond to requests to confirm E&E’s report. Ebell referred questions to the campaign.

A pep talk for Trump

Kurt Schlicter writes at Town Hall about tonight's debate, and why he wants Trump to give the performance of his life,
So how do you win? By remembering how you got here. You’re not talking to the editorial board of the New York Times – were you as stunned as I was that they endorsed that fascist crone? No, you got there speaking for the silent majority. The ones who like cops, who don’t riot, and who only know what “EBT” stands for because some freeloader in front of them in line at Safeway paid for two crates of Pepsi with it.

You got there speaking for the deplorable people who the establishment is doing everything it can to exile from their own self-determination. You are speaking for the people Hillary and her media gestapo want to force into obedience. And all they need is one loud voice who will not be intimidated to stand up to these bastards and say “No.”

Be that voice.

This campaign is about telling these nattering know-it-alls and unloved interlopers to go to hell. “Stop telling us what to do, how to live, how to feel, and what to think. Get out of my face, jerks.”

Your campaign is based on the theme that the elite deserves no extraordinary respect, while we, the People, do. Hillary’s campaign is based on the notion that us peons should all accept sweet submission to her rule.

...That’s your demo. The people who are afraid to speak. The people who are supposed to shut up and take it. The people Hillary wants to segregate into a basket and toss into a bottomless pit. Speak for them on Monday. Speak for everyone who Hillary and her goosestepping pals try to gag, silence and shame.

...the “moderators” will be under orders to destroy you. Ignore them. Ignore her. Talk to us. Talk to the People.

Stop Hillary on Monday. Be tough. Be disciplined. Be ready to ignore the shills and that loathsome felon and speak to us.

All that’s at stake is your reputation. Your family’s safety. Your country’s future.

No pressure.

If Black Lives Matter...

Bookworm writes,
If Black Lives Matter, the protesters would be in Obama’s Chicago every single day, standing as a human bulwark protecting innocent people from the killers among them.

If Black Lives Matter, the protesters would spread out to failing schools and (a) help maintain order so that children can learn and (b) impress upon the children that knowledge is the key to freedom and personal financial stability.

If Black Lives Matter, the protesters would be agitating for right-to-carry laws in majority black communities so that law-abiding citizens can readily defend themselves against men who ignore the gun control laws controlling America’s most dangerous communities.

If Black Lives Matter, the protesters would be working as hard as possible to shut down all of the Planned Parenthood facilities situated (as Margaret Sanger once dreamed) in primarily black communities that often abort more black babies than are born.

If Black Lives Matter, we would accord American blacks the dignity of expecting them to conform to the life plan that sees so many white people achieving economic stability: get educated, get married, get a job, have children, and make sure daddy sticks around. Instead, the professional Left contends that it’s racist to preach this colorblind conduct to an American cohort that, in the early 1960s was ascending the economic ladder based on this behavior until Johnson’s Great Society chased fathers out of the home in favor of welfare checks from Uncle Sam.

If Black Lives Matter, the infamous “talk” that black parents have with their children wouldn’t tell them that whites are out to get them but would, instead, tell them (a) in any interaction with police, follow their orders and save your fight with them, if you have one, for later when you won’t get shot and (b) reinstate the black middle-class pattern predating the Great Society: education, marriage, children…. Parents would teach their children to become masters of their destiny, not flotsam and jetsam drifting through increasingly perilous waters to an inevitable violent death.

Here’s the ugly reality: To the Left, Black Lives don’t really Matter. What matters is the narrative — and the narrative is that blacks must turn their eyes away from the self-destructive behavior decades of Democrat policies have forced upon them and, instead, focus all their rage and frustration on the thin blue line that, in many neighborhoods, is all that protects the prey from the predators.

The reality — not the narrative — is that police are the least of the problems American blacks contend with in today’s society:

"Buy your own ticket back to America"

Fox Business brings us some information about Pastor Saeed Abedini, who was held prisoner by Iran for several years, then released when Obama gave Iran another $400,000.
Iranian president Hassan Rouhani spoke before the United Nations General Assembly Thursday despite protests from Iranian-Americans who feel Iran’s human rights situation has worsened after sanctions were modified earlier this year.

Pastor Saeed Abedini, one of four American hostages released from Iran in January, shared his disbelief of Rouhani’s annual speech during an interview with FOX Business Network’s Trish Regan.

“I was just telling people that imagine leader of ISIS come to the United States after 30 years of all the executions that they did and leaders of the world shaking his hand. It’s unbelievable,” Abedini said.

Abedini said he and other hostages were left to fend for themselves after flying from Iran to Germany when they were released after the Obama Administration’s $400 million payment to Iran.

After spending a few days in a hospital in Germany, Adedini was surprised to hear that he needed to buy his own plane ticket home.

“We were actually all shocked because I came out; I just had prison clothes and [they] just told us you need to buy your own ticket.”

Abedini said he was physically and psychologically tortured in the Iranian prison to the point where his stomach was bleeding for months from all the beatings.

“The whole last three to five years that I was there, it was just torturing, it was so hard,” Abedini said.

Uber planning self-flying drones

The Ehang 184, a passenger drone CREDIT: EHANG

James Titcomb writes at Telegraph,
If you summon an Uber in 10 years’ time, you will probably get a car that drives itself. But then again, you may not be travelling in a car at all.

The taxi-hailing app is working on technology that would allow airborne passenger drones to fly its users short distances around cities, it has emerged, raising the prospect of a future in which skylines are dotted with Uber aircraft shuttling commuters back and forth.

Incontrovertible Proof That the FBI's "Investigation" of Hillary and Her Henchmen Was a Sham From the Start

FBI Director James Comey. (Photo: Joe Raedle/Getty Images)
John Schindler writes at Observer,
As I observed in early July, when Director James Comey announced that the FBI would not be seeking prosecution of anyone on Team Clinton over EmailGate, the Bureau had turned its back on its own traditions of floating above partisan politics in the pursuit of justice. “Malfeasance by the FBI, its bending to political winds, is a matter that should concern all Americans, regardless of their politics,” I stated, noting that it’s never a healthy turn of events in a democracy when your secret police force gets tarnished by politics.

Just how much Comey and his Bureau punted on EmailGate has become painfully obvious since then. Redacted FBI documents from that investigation, dumped on the Friday afternoon before the long Labor Day weekend, revealed that Hillary Clinton either willfully lied to the Bureau, repeatedly, about her email habits as secretary of state, or she is far too dumb to be our commander-in-chief.

Worse, the FBI completely ignored the appearance of highly classified signals intelligence in Hillary’s email, including information lifted verbatim from above-Top Secret NSA reports back in 2011. This crime, representing the worst compromise of classified information in EmailGate – that the public knows of, at least – was somehow deemed so uninteresting that nobody at the FBI bothered to ask anybody on Team Clinton about it.

This stunning omission appears highly curious to anybody versed in counterintelligence matters, not least since during Obama’s presidency, the FBI has prosecuted Americans for compromising information far less classified than what Clinton and her staff exposed on Hillary “unclassified” email server of bathroom infamy.

Ace of Spades writes, "Let's talk about Cheryl Mills -- and ponder, briefly, why on earth James Comey of all people would grant her immunity, except if the Fix was in." Then Ace links to Schindler,

As a Whitewater investigator for the Senate in the mid-1990s, Comey sought information from Mills; but wouldn’t you know, the then-deputy White House counsel claimed a burglar stole her notes.
Comey concluded that Hillary Clinton ordered Mills to block investigators. The obstruction, the Senate committee found, included the "destruction of documents" and other "highly improper . . . misconduct."

Two years later, Mills was in the middle of another Hillary scandal, involving the then-first lady's integration of White House and Democratic National Committee computer databases.

This time the House subpoenaed information from Mills, who not only withheld the documents but, a government committee said, "lied under oath" -- prompting staff lawyers to send a criminal referral to the Justice Department demanding prosecutors charge Mills with obstruction of justice and perjury.

In 2000, a Commerce Department official testified that Mills ordered her to "withhold" from investigators e-mails and other documents exposing yet another scandal involving the first lady -- the selling of seats on foreign trade junkets for campaign cash.

At the same time, a federal judge suggested Mills helped orchestrate a cover-up that blamed a technical "glitch" in the White House archiving system that conveniently resulted in the loss of 1.8 million e-mails under subpoena in the Monica Lewinsky, Filegate and other scandal investigations.

Fast-forward to Hillary’s tenure as secretary. In October 2012, Mills sorted through key Benghazi documents and decided which to withhold from a review board. She also leaned on witnesses. Deputy ambassador to Libya Gregory Hicks testified before Congress in 2013 that Mills told him in an angry phone call to stop cooperating with investigators.

Ace again,
Let's talk about that immunity deal. Comey wanted documents on her laptop. He could have compelled them by the simple and routine expedient of a subpeona.

Instead, he granted her immunity for any documents he found on her system.

And what was on her system? Classified documents which are illegal for any non-authorized person to have copies of.

Instead of prosecuting her, he made the problem go away by fixing her up with immunity for the very crime she was red-handedly guilty of.

Well, Bill didn't seem to think she was in the sewer!

Ann Althouse is always saving us from having to read the New York Times or watch the Sunday "news" shows. Today it it the latter:
Flowers in the sewer — the misogyny of the disgust for Bill Clinton's lover.
On "Meet the Press" today, Chuck Todd was interviewing Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman, John Podesta:
CHUCK TODD: Is your goal of this debate is to get under his skin? Is that why you gave Mark Cuban a ticket right in the front row?

JOHN PODESTA: No, I think Mark Cuban is one of the business leaders who was never involved in partisan politics who's endorsed Hillary because he thinks she'll do better for the-- for the economy. I think that, you know, you saw his reaction, which is to do his favorite sport, which is to dive in the sewer and go for a swim.

Trump's reaction, you remember, was "Perhaps I will put Gennifer Flowers right alongside of him!" Now, I have a feminist problem with Trump's remark, one that I haven't seen anyone else notice, and that is the idea that he can "put" the woman where he likes. Flowers is a person, not an object — like a vase of flowers — but Flowers has already responded positively to the notion of getting placed in front of Hillary.*

So let me move on to the feminist problem I have with what Podesta said. He says the name, Mark Cuban, and vaunts him as a business leader who is above politics, but he won't say the name of the woman and he speaks of her as a creature of the sewer.

Todd pushes him: "You said-- you referred to diving into the sewer, so you believe that inviting Gennifer Flowers is diving into the sewer?" And Podesta has the smarts to resist further disrespecting the woman. But later, there's a panel, and one of the participants is Stephanie Cutter (who was Obama's deputy campaign manager in 2012 and who helped John Kerry prepare for debates in 2004). Todd asks her about "the idea of gamesmanship, which is the Clinton Campaign deciding to put Mark Cuban in the front row," and the response had me shouting at the TV:
STEPHANIE CUTTER: ... What Clinton and Trump are doing are trying to throw each other off their game. The difference is Hillary Clinton is doing it with a legitimate businessman, also, a celebrity. And as John Podesta put it earlier on your show, Trump is just jumping right down in the sewer and swimming in it by inviting Gennifer Flowers.
The man is "legitimate," and the woman is a "sewer."

Chuck Todd turned to another panelist, Steve Schmidt (a senior adviser to John McCain in 2008).
STEVE SCHMIDT: [The tactic of inviting Cuban] was clearly designed to provoke Donald Trump and it provoked Donald Trump, it provoked Donald Trump into going down the Gennifer Flowers rabbit hole....
The Gennifer Flowers rabbit hole?! Don't call a woman a "hole." Don't speak of a human being as a lower animal, a rodent. Whatever these people want to say about Trump, they should say it about Trump, but they instinctively jumped to express disgust toward the woman — who's really just a bystander to the pre-debate mind-games. Is this misogyny? The argument that it is not depends on the idea that the disgust is with sexuality — what happens when the man and the woman — Bill and Gennifer — get together and not with the woman herself. But the instinct — in both Podesta and Cutter — was to take the man out of the picture. Bill, like Mark Cuban, is legitimate. That horrible woman over there should be treated as a nonentity — down in a hole, there in the excrement, a rodent, a filthy pest. Anyone who would name her or treat her with equal dignity has himself fallen down into the sewer with her — "swimming in it," swimming in shit.

Being on the side of the female candidate does not absolve you of misogyny. It blinds you to it.

Cover up

At the Power Line blog John Hinderaker asks, How's the cover up going, Hillary?

The great Arnold Palmer dies

Arnold Palmer died today. I agree with this paragraph in the New York times by Dave Anderson:
But it was more than his scoring and shotmaking that captivated the sports world. It was how he played. He did not so much navigate a course as attack it. If his swing was not classic, it was ferocious: He seemed to throw all 185 pounds of his muscular 5-foot-10 body at the ball. If he did not win, he at least lost with flair.

Handsome and charming, his sandy hair falling across his forehead, his shirttail flapping, a cigarette sometimes dangling from his lips, Palmer would stride down a fairway acknowledging his “army” of fans with a sunny smile and a raised club, “like Sir Lancelot amid the multitude in Camelot,” Ira Berkow wrote in The New York Times.

And the television cameras followed along. As Woods would do more than 30 years later, Palmer, a son of a golf pro at Latrobe Country Club in the steel town of Latrobe, Pa., almost single-handedly stimulated TV coverage of golf, widening the game’s popularity among a postwar generation of World War II veterans enjoying economic boom times and a sprawling green suburbia.

...Hitching up his pants as he marched down the fairways or before lining up a crucial putt, Palmer put the word “charge” into golf’s vocabulary in 1960. In the final round of that year’s Masters, he birdied the 17th and 18th holes to win by one stroke. Two months later, in the United States Open at Cherry Hills, near Denver, he shot a final-round 65 to win by two over Nicklaus.

I was following him very closely, just a few yards behind him in Fort Worth when he did this:
If he hit a wayward tee shot to an awkward spot, he usually went for the green, rather than chip the ball safely back to the fairway as other golfers would have done.

Yes, I was a member of "Arnie's Army."
“I feel the strength of the gallery, especially on a critical shot,” he said in his prime. “Silence is louder than any noise on a golf course — the deathly silence that I sometimes feel and hear when I’m out there. That will tell you how powerful the galleries really are. They have an appreciation of what you’re going through, of what’s happening, and they understand.”
