How about the "Social Credit Score," where everything you say, read, write determines what apartments you are allowed to have, what jobs you are allowed to have, what schools you are allowed to go to.
The "trade war" is a subset of a broader war. They are being cut off from the hard cash of the American consumer through these tariffs. The tariffs are making up for the subsidies.
