Laura is very disappointed that President Trump did not end DACA soon after his inauguration. She is very critical of Jeff Flake, John McCain, Marco Rubio, and Tom Tillis for their pro-amnesty stances. She accuses Flake of lying about the median age of DACA Dreamers; he says six, she says 22.6.
Laura believes the DACA issue is about work permits and federal benefits. Did you know that a DACA person can have three misdemeanors and still be eligible for a work permit? DACA recipients are now being portrayed by the lamestream media as "living in the shadows." Laura, says, "yeah, going to public schools and using hospital emergency rooms and food stamps! $20 billion dollars a year in untaxed remittances going to Mexico!"
Here in New Mexico, there is a definite employment benefit if you are Spanish-speaking, and an adult not in school. Our son who has a good high school and work performance record was passed over on dozens of jobs, although he does speak fluent Spanish.
Dreamers. Do you have dreams for your kids? Do you resent the word "dreamers" being used to describe people who are in the country illegally? Do you dream that your kids will get in-state tuition at a college? Laura says Dreamers are getting preference in those institutions now. Why are our systems geared toward accommodating Dreamers, when we have American citizens out of work? Laura says, "China's laughing all the way to the bank."
Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) was a guest. Laura wants Trump to stand for the forgotten man and woman who are legal citizens. Veto anything that doesn't do that. The only staff person left in the White House left who is making these points to Trump is Stephen Miller.
Senator Tom Cotton was a guest on the program today. Cotton explained why DACA is unconstitutional: the president cannot make immigration policy by himself. Obama himself admitted that the year before he created DACA! Laura pointed out that Trump could rescind it. He campaigned on ending it! Cotton said that would trigger a stampede in Congress to codify it. Laura said, "That's what vetoes are for!"
Senator Cotton is an author of the Raise Act, Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy (RAISE).
Vladimer Putin spoke out in a forum in China today. He criticized the Trump administration rhetoric on North Korea, saying it was likely to bring us closer to more problems. He also said sanctions don't work. Laura said, "Yeah, they don't work when people like you and China go right around them!"
Gordan Chang was Laura's first guest. He thought the most important development was President Trump talking about stopping trade with countries that do business with North Korea. Will he? Also, will he stop Chinese banks from money laundering? Gordon believes this is what Trump will most be remembered by in history.
What is Kim Jong Un's goal? To rule the entire peninsula! He keeps talking about final victory. He sells items in his arsenal to Iran and Syria.
Laura wishes we had better relations with Russia. We go to China all the time, but relations with Russia continue to deteriorate! Nikki Haley worries that if we move ahead with sanctions on China, Putin will "backfill," supporting North Korea.
