I was trying to explain to someone why Trump’s alleged “lies” are much less serious than Hillary’s actual lies. Trump engages in puffery, a legally recognized form of commercial boasting that allows someone to make obviously exaggerated statements that everyone understands are extreme opinions (“best,” “biggest,” “yuuuge,” “ugliest”) rather than actual falsehoods.
