Notice anything in common among the items below the inflation line or anything in common among the items above the inflation line?
The things BELOW the inflation line are things that are subsidized little or not at all by government. The result? Many of them have become less expensive, relatively speaking, over the the last two decades. Why? Because there's competition among businesses to cut costs, cut prices, become more efficient, while offering better products and services.
The things ABOVE the inflation line are things heavily subsidized by government. Why? Because many silly Americans actually believe they have a "right" to these things, so government takes money from some citizens in order to subsidize these alleged "rights" for other citizens.
The price of college and university tuitions has increased more than virtually any other consumer product or service. And few things are subsidized more heavily by government than education.
The result? Once colleges and universities learn that government will pay the bill, they jack up their prices by giving themselves huge raises, hiring hordes of non-teaching bureaucrats, then handing the check to Uncle Sam and saying: Pay up ol' boy!
Now socialist college students are complaining about high tuition costs. And what do they want to happen? MORE government subsidies for education!
Good grief we've become stupid as we've become socialists.
