Shhh… Don’t tell Obama. He’s trying to sink this putt. (Speaking of sinking…)
Louisiana hit by massive flooding. This is a career-ending national disaster. The president’s name shall be forever tarnished by this event.
Obviously he’s a soulless bastard who cares nothing for the lives of poor black people.
No… wait. That was the LAST time it flooded. And THAT President actually WENT there.
What about this time?
First, the problem:
Red Cross has called the flooding “the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Superstorm Sandy.” It has caused incredible suffering. Thirteen are dead, with a toll that is likely to rise as the worst of the flooding has not yet abated. 8,400 are hunkering down in shelters and emergency services have rescued 30,000 from their homes. An astonishing 40,000 homes have been damaged, many of which will be beyond repair. More rain and associated flash flooding is forecast for today. Commentary Magazine
So, yeah… kind of a big deal, right?
The Editorial Board of Louisiana’s ‘The Advocate’ thought so: [They]
compared Obama’s response to the crisis to the federal government’s poor response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
And if the president can interrupt his vacation for a swanky fundraiser for fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton, as he did on Monday, then surely he can make time to show up for a catastrophe that’s displaced thousands.
The optics of Obama golfing while Louisiana residents languished in flood waters was striking. It evoked the precedent of the passive federal response to the state’s agony in 2005, a chapter of history no one should ever repeat.
The editorial board did compliment Obama for already declaring the flooded areas national disaster zones, which then allows for federal aid to be rapidly brought to the state.
Obama began his vacation on Aug. 6 and has played at least eight rounds of golf since arriving on Martha’s Vineyard.
Meeting with rich donors? That’s worth interrupting a vacation. Meeting with the suffering poor? Not so much.
Commentary Magazine goes on to make a brutal point:
Where is the apoplexy that followed George W. Bush’s failure to respond to a natural disaster with the alacrity his critics deemed appropriate? The press has not devoted its front pages to the disaster; the nightly newscasts have declined to open the broadcast with an update of events or to park correspondents outside Obama’s island dacha.
It is only too obvious why. It’s an election year, and there are far too many Democrats caught up in this thing to make waves.
Maybe if the media weren’t so busy telling us which lives “matter” they would step up and take notice that there is REAL suffering worth reporting on that is far more important than carrying the water for Team Obama-HIllary in an Election Year.
This blog is looking for wisdom, to have and to share. It is also looking for other rare character traits like good humor, courage, and honor. It is not an easy road, because all of us fall short. But God is love, forgiveness and grace. Those who believe in Him and repent of their sins have the promise of His Holy Spirit to guide us and show us the Way.
