My, how the times have changed

The songs my fourth grade daughter and her friends listen to are very different from the songs I listened to in fourth grade. Sex, violence, more sex, foul language. Justin Bieber?

I decided to look on You Tube for some of the songs I was singing when near my daughter's current age. Not a one of them were sexual. None were violent. People dressed up, not down. Here they were: Jimmie Davis, You are My Sunshine; Cliff Edwards, When You Wish Upon a Star; Vaughn Monroe, Ghost Riders in the Sky; Doris Day, Sentimental Journey; Dinah Shore, Buttons and Bows; Nat King Cole, Chestnusts Roasting on an Open Fire; The Mills Brothers, Paper Doll; Gene Autry, Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer; Artie Shaw, Stardust; Bing Crosby, White Christmas.

When I was a teen, things got a little raunchier and rowdier when Elvis came on the scene. But the rest? Not so much. Some of my favorites were Nat King Cole singing Mona Lisa; Hank Williams singing Your Cheatin Heart? Sam Cooke, Darlin You Send Me; The Weavers, Good Night Irene; Jo Stafford, You Belong to Me; The Little Drummer Boy; The Platters, Only You; Buddy Holly, Peggy Sue; Elvis Presley, All Shook Up; Jerry Lee Lewis, Great Balls of Fire; The Everly Brothers, All I Have to Do is Dream; Fats Domino, Blueberry Hill; Carl Perkins, Blue Suede Shoes; Buddy Holly, That'll Be The Day; Patti Page, Tennessee Waltz; Elvis Presley, Heartbreak Hotel, Bobby Darin, Mack the Knife; Elvis, Hound Dog; Elvis, Don't Be Cruel; Bill Haley, Rock Around the Clock, Tennessee Ernie Ford, 16 Tons.

What were the tunes you were humming?
