Where courageous journalism still exists

BBC News has a wonderful article explaining what life is like now for the remaining citizens of Mosul in Iraq. BBC interviewed survivors of the Islamic State's assault and takeover of Mosul. The outstanding features now are: control of women, persecution of minorities, intimidation, punishment, and torture, disruption of daily life (fuel is in short supply, pollution widespread, construction halted and many schools closed), indoctrination and surveillance, military tactics and strategy (digging tunnels, building barricades, planting mines and bombs, and filling the city with snipers).
